Gerald A. “Jerry” Frey, age 83, of Highland, passed away Friday, September 4, 2026, at St. Francis Hospital in Litchfield. He was born on October 10, 1942, in Highland, a son of the late Wilbur and Lenora (nee Gall) Frey.
On November 25, 1961, he married Sandra Baer at St. Paul Catholic Church in Highland, she survives in Highland. Gerald is also survived by his children, Terry Frey of St. Peters, MO, Tina (Michael) Wright of St. Charles, MO and Dean Frey of Edwardsville; grandchildren, Maurice (Keionna) Mike, Brittny Mike, Nate Frey, Ashley Frey, Kayla (Kevin) Richie and Grace Frey; great grandchildren, Tyree Mike and Olivia Mike; sister, Donna (Wayne) Guetterman of Branson, MO; brother-in-law, Louie Workman of Pocahontas; and many nieces and nephews.
Gerald is preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Vonnie (Ronnie) Rutz, Barbara Workman and Wayne Frey; and parents-in-law, Aloys and Mary Jane (nee Waltrip) Baer.
Gerald graduated Highland High School in 1960, he honorably served his country as a veteran of the United States Army. Following his military service, Gerald built a distinguished 35-year career at McDonnell Douglas as an Inspection Supervisor. A man of deep faith, he was also a dedicated member of St. Paul Catholic Church. Gerald lived life to the fullest and loved sports. He was an avid fisherman, bowler, and a lifelong St. Louis Cardinals fan. He looked forward to playing cards with his poker group and proudly held the award-winning title of "King of Tops." Above all, Gerald’s greatest joy was his family. He loved going for walks and was a constant, cheering presence at all of his kids' and grandkids' sporting events.
A Memorial Mass will be held Friday, September 18, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul Catholic Church in Highland, with military honors to directly follow outside.
In lieu of flowers, plants, or other gifts, memorials may be made to American Heart Association or Masses at St. Paul and will be received at the memorial mass or by mail at Moss Funeral Home, 1501 9th St., Highland, IL 62249, which is serving the family.
