George William (Bill) Bruce

George William (Bill) Bruce, 73, passed away at 2:00 am on Monday, November 16, 2009 at his residence while under the care of St. Anthony's Hospice with his family by his side.

He was born on August 4, 1936 in Hillview, Illinois, the son of Ernest and Hurble (Bradshaw) Bruce.

He was formerly married to Margaret R. Rhine Bruce, she survives of East Alton, Illinois

He retired as a tank foreman from Owens Illinois Glass in Alton in 1983 after 33 years at the time of the plant closing. He was currently working for Mike Barton of Barton Properties. He was an active member of the Alton Moose Lodge 951 for several years, holding office for the first time as treasurer in 1987. He was a member of the Moose Fellowship and the Alton Eagles AERIE # 254.

In addition to his life partner of 22 years, Carmen Robertson of East Alton, he is survived by one daughter, Brenda Bruce of East Alton; 4 sons, Mickey Bruce of Wood River, Douglas Bruce of East Alton, Jeffrey Bruce of Roxana and Chad & Amy Bruce of East Alton; Carmean's son and daughter-in-law, Tim & Cindy Robertson of Cottage Hills; between the blended families, there are 17 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Jim & Sandy Bruce of Festus, MO; a sister, Charlotte Watts of Battleground, WA; 3 sisters-in-law, Edmunda Bruce of Rosewood Heights, Ruth Bruce of Holiday Shores and Georgena Bruce of Alton and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Jean Farman and three brothers, Herbert, Martin and Adrian

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm on Wednesday, November 18, 2009 at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto with Moose rites at 7 pm. Funeral services will be at 1 pm on Thursday, November 19, 2009 at the funeral home with Rev. Charles West officiating.

Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.

Memorials may be given to St Jude's Children's Research or St. Anthony's Hospice.
