George David Tompkins, 85, of Medora, IL, passed away on Sunday November 26, 2023, at his home.
He was born on October 31, 1938, in Norris City, IL, the son of the late George “Buster” and Oma Tompkins.
He married the love of his life Kay Frances (Waters) Tompkins on May 28, 1960. They were married for 63 years before her death on August 1, 2023.
George was the Librarian and the Audio-Visual Director for 33 years for Southwestern School District in Piasa. He was also a volunteer firefighter and EMT for the Medora Ambulance Service for many years. Geoerge was a faithful member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Medora.
He is survived by two daughters, Lea Tompkins and Kara (Bill) Harrison; five grandchildren Keith Estes, Jenna (Brenton) Allen, Bryan (Ashley) Buck, Kelsey Harrison, Josh (Alexandria) Harrison; four great grandchildren Bailey, Miles, Asher, and Charlotte; sister Mildred Pate; two brothers Frank (Joyce) Tompkins and Tommy Tompkins; brother in law Maurice Capen; two sisters in law Marti Marler and Linda (Ron) Wall.
George was preceded in death by his wife, Kay; parents Buster and Oma; sisters Elizabeth Capen and Mattie Hobgood; three brothers in law Bill Hobgood, Troy Pate, and Jack Marler.
Per his wishes no services will be held.
