George Likes

George Terry Likes, of Woodburn, passed away into the arms of his Lord and Savior on Saturday, March 7, 2026 at Barnes Jewish Hospital.

Terry was the son of George and Bette (Davis) Likes born on November 7, 1955 in Alton, IL. He was raised in Woodburn and attended Bunker Hill High School graduating in May 1973.

He was a very hard worker starting at age 16 at the Broadway Burger Chef in Alton. He went on to work at the Wood River Journal where he got his journeyman's card as a Pressman. After the closing of the Journal he went to City Vending of St Louis till there was an opening at the Alton Telegraph newspaper in the press room, then to Olin Brass and finally to Rotary Ram as a machinist.

He fought bravely after suffering a major stroke in Sept 2019 and wanted to live at home. He had a quick wit, loved to talk about history and he had a kind, giving and loving heart. He loved to watch the St Louis Cardinals and the St Louis Blues on TV along with old movies especially with John Wayne starring.

He is survived by his four sisters and brother: Sherry (Lucky) Bodenbach of Godfrey, Rhonda (Bruce) Scott, Tim (Patrice) Likes all of Bunker Hill, Patti (LaMonte) Pierce of Camden, AR and Kristi Likes of Godfrey.

Surviving also are 4 nieces and 2 nephews, Tim G. (Christen) Likes, Maggie Scott, Mollie (Jeff) Ogden, Makenzie (Luke) Nelson, Jeana Pierce and Jordan (Taylor) Bodenbach, great nieces and a nephew, Kylee, Kaitlyn, and Cami Ogden, Tabitha and Tim G. Likes, Isla and Aurora Bodenbach. Also surviving are an uncle, Herb Davis, aunt Mary Davis along with many cousins and friends.

He loved his two special little friends that came to visit, River and Zeppelin Tholin. He received daily cards from cousin Frank Arnold. He so appreciated the current loving care of Diana, Jan, Melissa, Christine, Heidi and Angie. He was a gentle giant who loved his horses and his cat Stinkee. Terry was able to be a tissue donor.

Memorials may be made to Shriners Children's or American Diabetes Association. Visitation will be at Kravanya Funeral Home in Bunker Hill from 9:30 am to 11:00 am with the service following at 11:00 am on Monday, March 16, 2026. Rev. Jeremy Wood will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Lawn Memory Gardens, Bethalto, IL. All are welcome to wear St Louis Cardinal red or St. Louis Blues to honor Terry.
