George “Butch” H. Auten, Jr.,

George “Butch” H. Auten, Jr., 68, died at 11:40 a.m. on Thursday, October 13, 2016 at his home after a brief illness.   He was born September 18, 1948 in Alton the son of Emma Jean (Spurgeon) Auten of Jerseyville and the late George H. “Bud” Auten Sr.  He worked at Owens IL Glass in Alton and later retired from Olin Corporation in East Alton after 20 years of service.  He was a U.S. Army Veteran serving with the 82^nd Airborne in Vietnam and was a lifetime member of VFW Post 1308 in Alton.   On January 2, 1980 in Alton he married Margie (Brinkley) and she survives.  Also surviving are one daughter; Jennifer Auten of Denver, Colorado, one grandson, Reed Auten of Omaha, Nebraska,  one step-daughter; Lisa Smither (Marc) of Frankfort, Kentucky, one step-son, Ron Streich of Pensacola, Florida, one brother, Bob Mohon of Las Vegas, NV, two sisters, Debra Williams and Susan Nash of Jerseyville. He was preceded in death by a stepson, John Streich Jr.   Graveside services will be at Bethany Cemetery with Pastor Gregory Denton Officiating.  Memorials may be made to Bread of Life Church in Alton or American Cancer Society.  Additional information and online guest book may be found at www.gentfuneralhome.com
