George Anton Lee, 84, died peacefully at 9:40 p.m. on Sunday, June 24, 2018 at his home in Florida, surrounded by loved ones. Born October 8, 1933 in Alton, he was the son of Clifford Raymond and Marie Josephine (Kaiser) Lee.

George attended Saints Peter & Paul Grade School and was a graduate of Marquette Catholic High School. He was honored to serve in the United States Army. George was a carpenter by trade, and a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America, Carpenters Local 377. He became involved in the Boy Scouts of America at a young age, and eventually served as Scout Master in the Alton area. He was a member of the Alton Knights of Columbus Council 460 for many years, as well as the Owl’s Club. He was a volunteer fireman for the Godfrey Fire Department. George and his wife, “Cis”, met weekly with a group of close friends known as “The Friday Nighters” to share food, drinks and an abundance of love and laughter. George possessed a deep appreciation for nature and the outdoors. He enjoyed camping, hunting and most of all, fishing. He was a fan of professional boxing, tennis, and Florida Gators football. George was a diehard Cubs fan, ever ready to engage in banter with rival Cardinal fans.

On July 27, 1970 he married the former Olivia LeMarian “Cis” Carroll, and she survives. Also surviving is a daughter, Connie Hubach Horn (Steve) of Seminole, FL, three grandchildren, Jason Horn (Sophia Jaconetta) of Seminole, FL, Jessica Esposito (Mike) of Tinley Park, IL, and Angie Locascio (Anthony) of Plainfield, IL, eight great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild. His sister, Leona Greer of Overland Park, KS also survives, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents, George was preceded in death by a grandson, Jude Patrick Horn, two great grandchildren, Jaelin Horn and Baelo Locascio, and a brother, Clifford Henry Lee.

Visitation will be on Saturday, June 30, 2018 at Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church from 9:30 a.m. until time of Mass of Christian burial at 10:30 a.m. celebrated by Father Jason Stone. Burial will be at Upper Alton Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital in St. Louis, MO or Suncoast Hospice in Clearwater, FL.
