George A. Bakan, Jr., 88, passed away 10:42 am, Sunday, September 23, 2014 at OSF St. Anthony's Health Center in Alton.
Born on August 29, 1930 in Whiting, IN, he was the son of George A., Sr. and Margaret (Hmurovich) Bakan.
George was a self-employed business man who enjoyed helping others.
He married his wife, Nadia in Detroit, MI in 1959. She survives.
Surviving also are a daughter, Paula (Clem) Strack of Wood River; granddaughters, Sarah (Jeremy) Briggs, Jes (Jeff) Gustafson, Sam Strack (fiance', Andrew Talkington); and two great grandchildren, Charlotte Briggs, Kalen Gustafson.
Visitation will be from 4-8 pm Wednesday at Sts. Cyril and Methody Eastern Orthodox Church, 4770 Maryville Rd, Granite City, IL, where services will be conducted at 10 am Thursday. Father Andrew Moulton will officiate.
Burial will follow in Rose Lawn Memory gardens in Bethalto.
Memorials may be made to Sts. Cyril and Methody Eastern Orthodox Church where he served as a deacon or Riverbend Humane Society.
