Gary Morgan

Gary “Doc” A. Morgan, 73, of Granite City, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 28, 2025, at Gateway Regional Medical Center, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born October 18, 1951, in Granite City, Doc was the son of the late Lester Morgan and Theresa “Terri” (Raymond) Morgan-Vaughn.

Doc was the kind of man whose presence filled a room—not with noise, but with a steady, dependable warmth. A devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, he built his life on the foundation of family, loyalty, and hard work.

On August 6, 1970, Doc married Linda Jones, with whom he shared 45 beautiful years until her passing on August 16, 2015, and on September 24, 2016, he married Kellie Moussette, who remained his steadfast partner until his final days.

Doc dedicated his career to National Steel and U.S. Steel, where he spent many years working in the blast furnace. His work ethic was unmatched, but outside of the mill, he was a man who knew how to enjoy life’s simple pleasures. He loved a good game of cards, strumming his guitar, listening to music, and spending time with friends. Above all else, his happiest moments were those spent with his family, who were truly the heartbeat of his world.

In addition to his parents and his first wife, Doc was preceded in death by his beloved son, Brian Morgan.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Kellie Morgan of Granite City, IL; his loving sons, Christopher (Jerri) Morgan and Jason Morgan, both of Granite City, IL; his daughter-in-law, Amanda Byrd; his brother, Royce (Vicki) Morgan; fourteen grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many extended family members and dear friends who will cherish his memory.

Honoring his wishes, Doc will be cremated, and no formal services will be held. He will be laid to rest beside his first wife, Linda, at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon, Illinois, at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the family.
