Gary Claxton

Gary Lee Claxton, 64, died at 5:49 a.m. on Sunday, April 23, 2017 at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.  He was born November 17, 1952 in Alton the son of the late Leon Ralph and Della Mae (Williams) Claxton.  He retired assistant chief with the Alton Fire Department where he was proud of his service as a firefighter and a paramedic.  He was an avid boater and enjoyed flying as a pilot.  Surviving are six  children; Jodi Reeves (Sean) of Chicago, Angel Marie Claxton (Jerry Bemis) of Godfrey, Kelly Wooldridge (Erin) of O’Fallon, MO, Robbie Campbell of Reno, NV, Gary James Claxton of Meadow Brooks and Garrod Allen Claxton of Alton, 16 grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Bill Claxton.  Visitation will be Tuesday, April 25, 2017 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at Gent Funeral Home in Alton where funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 26, 2017.   Burial will be at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Alton.  Memorials may be made to Backstoppers.  Additional information and online guestbook may be found at www.gentfuneralhome.com
