Gary Woolsey

Gary E. "Monk" Woolsey, 56, died unexpectedly at 4:05 p.m., Saturday, April 7, 2012 at his residence. He was born in Alton on Nov. 18, 1955, the son of Gerald & Adelene (Armstrong) Woolsey. Gary grew up in the Brighton/Jerseyville area and graduated from Jersey Community High School with the Class of 1975. He worked as a driver for Grantham Trucking for many years, and was a Harley Davidson enthusiast who enjoyed many long trips with his wife on their motorcycle; and enjoyed being with his family and watching the St. Louis Cardinals. He married the former Toni Wallace on March 22, 1989, and they just recently celebrated their 23rd wedding anniversary. Surviving are his wife, Toni Woolsey of Jerseyville; his mother, Adelene Walz of Jerseyville; a son & daughter in law, Joshua & Melody Woolsey of Bethalto; a daughter & son in law, Tiffany & Kyle Edwards of Grafton; two grandchildren, Adrianna Woolsey and Dayton Edwards; two sisters & brothers in law, Kathy & Duff Foiles of Shipman, and Cindy & Steve Conrad of Eldred; a brother, Randy Woolsey of Alton; and his mother in law, Marilyn Wallace of Jerseyville. He was preceded in death by his father, Gerald Woolsey. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville where funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday. Rev. Carl Hayes will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville. Memorials may be given to his family to assist in defraying funeral and medical expenses, and may be given at the funeral home.
