Gail Ann Van Meter, age 65 of Collinsville, IL, born March 19, 1956 in St. Louis, MO, passed away on Tuesday, June 1, 2021 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. 

Gail was a homemaker.  She was a member of Christ Unity Church in Collinsville, the VFW Post 5691 Ladies Auxiliary, and Second Wind Lung Transplant Association of St. Louis.  Gail was a double lung transplant recipient and an organ donor.  She loved her grandchildren and cherished her time spent with them.  She was also an animal lover.

 She was preceded in death by her parents, Dwight Morrison and Shirley Ann (nee Rodgers) Eaton. 

She is survived by her husband, Dennis Dickey, whom she married July 1, 2012; three sons:  Chris Plank of Cahokia, IL, Ronnie (Stacy) Price of Lake St. Louis, MO and Tony (Stacey) VanMeter of Cahokia, IL; a daughter, Brittney (Dylan) Koke of Troy, IL; three step-children:  Matthew (Sarah) Dickey of Boston, MA, Erin (Spencer) Dickey of Stillwater, OK and Megan Dickey of Arlington, VA; 12 grandchildren:  Derek, Devin, Ricky, Kayla, Aaron, Hannah, Kaden, Mia, Ceci, Bella, Clara and Henry; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Wayne (Gina) Eaton of Cahokia, IL; a sister, Janice (Darrell) Cunningham of St. James, MO; a half-brother, Jimmy (Carol) Harvey of Bullard, TX; numerous nieces and nephews. 

The family would like to express special thanks to the Lung Transplant Team and all the doctors and nurses at Barnes Hospital that have cared for Gail the past three and a half years. 

Visitation will be 4 – 7 p.m. on Monday, June 7, 2021 at Barry Wilson Funeral Home, Maryville, IL. 

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 8, 2021 at the funeral home, with Pastor Karen Landwehr officiating.  Burial will be at 1 p.m. in Steelville Cemetery, Steelville, MO. 

Memorials may be made in Gail’s honor to Second Wind, Treehouse Wildlife Center (animal rescue) or Mid America Transplant Foundation and will be received at the funeral home.
