Frieda Marie Chambers, 78, died at Jersey Community Hospital at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 16, 2010.

She was born December 14, 1931 in Godfrey, the daughter of Charles and Edith Krotz. Raised in Godfrey all her life, she was a devoted wife to John Chambers. They married March 30, 1951 and shared 59 years together. She was a long time member of Faith Lutheran Church in Godfrey. She loved to sew, make home made quilts, do word puzzles, an avid bowler and sing in the choir. A homemaker, she and her husband operated a dairy farm for many years.

Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Sharon Chambers, Russell and Sandy Chambers all of Godfrey, four daughters and son-in-law, Katherine and Lee Eagleton of Fieldon, Patricia and Dave Hutchins of Brighton, Diane and Brad Newell of Jerseyville, Christine and Kevin Dilks of Jerseyville, 18 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, one brother, Richard and Doris Krotz, six sisters-in-law, Robert and Joeanna Campion, Howard and Elizabeth Kelley, Dale and Ida Pike, Jim and Mary Wilton, Carol Powell, June Gerson and a brother-in-law, Michael Buddy Chambers, who was very special to her. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Frieda Marie Chambers, four sisters, Hazel Ashauer, Dorothy Kusterman, Letha Ribble and Lela Davis and three brothers, Leonard Krotz, Raymond Krotz and Charles Krotz Jr.

Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Friday at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Faith Lutheran Church in Godfrey. Reverend Kelly Mitteis will officiate. Burial will be at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey.

Memorials may be made to the Faith Lutheran Church or the Alzheimer’s Association.
