Ms. Freddie Mae Walker was born on September 20, 1933 to the union of the late Richard and Sarah (Long)Walker. She was raised in rural Jackson, TN, where she attended Jackson’s Public school system.  Ms. Walker accepted the Lord at an early age and was a member of St. John #1 in Tennessee.  In October 1971, she moved to Alton and became a member of St Paul Baptist Church. She later moved her membership to Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. John Buford, until her health declined.Mother Walker loved her children and ensured that they were clothed, fed, had a clean home, and knew GOD.  She was a homemaker, loved cooking, spending time with her family, gardening, listening to Quartet Singing, and putting on Quartet programs for the church; but most of all, she loved the Lord!On March 29 at her home at 5:46 p.m., Mother Walker heard the voice of the Master say, “Come and Rest!”  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by: 7 brothers; James Walker, Corl Walker, Ernest Walker, T-Willie Walker, Walter-B Walker, SB Walker, and James Thomas Walker (JT), 2 sisters; Dorothy Walker and Katherine Walker; 2 granddaughters, Shaunta Thomas and Keshia Smith; 3 great grandchildren, Angel Burley, Steven Harrison Jr. and Mai’jor Walker. She leaves to cherish her memory: 8 children, Clara (Melvin) Bridgforth of San Antonio, TX; Willie (Debra) Thomas of Godfrey, IL; Patsy Dennis of St.  Louis, MO; Climisteen Martindale of Glen Carbon, IL; Bobby (JoAnn) Thomas of Alexandria, VA; James Walker of Alton, IL; Teresa Gholston of Belleville, IL; and Charlonda (Essil) Walker-Rogers of East Alton, IL; a brother; Heron (Marie) Walker of St. Louis, MO; 2 step-sons, Dr. Frank (Gwen) Thomas of Jackson, TN and Bennie (Karen) Thomas of Humboldt, TN; an adopted daughter Anna Clark of Alton, IL; 19 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.Visitation will convene Saturday, April 8, 2017 from 9:00 a.m. until time of service at 10:00 a.m. at Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church.
