Franklin “Frankie” Frances Smart Jr., 27, of Granite City, IL, died at 1:55 p.m. Mon. Oct. 13, 2025 at St. Louis University Hospital in St. Louis, MO.
He was born July 16, 1998 in Granite City to Teresa Miller Smart of Granite City and Franklin Frances Smart Sr. of Granite City.
Frankie was a self-employed painter and drywaller and loved his job, making homes beautiful. He loved baseball and going fishing. He loved making people smile. Frankie is not only a son and friend, but truly like a brother to many. His dad’s very best friend describes him as the most respectful and genuine young man you could ever hope to know. Watching him and his family go through this heartbreaking time has been devastating, and they are facing challenges no family should ever have to endure.
To know him was to feel warmt, kindness, and light. He had a rare gift, the ability to make everyone feel seen, valued, and loved. His selfless heart and caring spirit touched all who crossed his path, leaving behind a legacy of genuine goodness. Though his time here was far too short, his light will forever live on in our hearts, and we find comfort knowing he now rests in God’s eternal peace.
In addition to his father and mother, he is survived by a brother, David Smart, 2 sisters, Destiny (Daniel) Smart Guenther, and Abigail Smith, uncles: Brian (Becky) Miller, Larry (Christy) Miller, and Dave Miller; aunts: Lisa Miller, Jean (Charles) Fulford, and Kathy (Fred) Shafer, and grandmother: Genie Carllile.
Frankie was preceded in death by a sister, Sierra Marie Smart, grandparents, William and Betty Smart, and uncles: Tim Miller, and William (Shirley) Smart.
The family will hold a memorial visitation from Noon until time of memorial services at 3:00 p.m. Sat. Oct. 25, 2025 at Nameoki United Methodist Church. It is requested that all guests were their best Cardinal baseball attire in honor of Frankie. Burial will be at a later date.
