Frank L. Schoppet, 85, passed away and went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Wednesday, September 14, 2016, at his home.He was born January 26, 1931, at his parent’s home, in Bethalto. He was the son of Frank T. Schoppet, who ran a grocery store in Bethalto until his death in March of 1932, and Reka (Westhoff) Schoppet, who lived her life in Bethalto and passed away in May of 1985, at the age of 96. Together, Frank and Reka had four children, Philip, John, Mary, and Frank. Frank L. was preceded in death by all three siblings.Frank attended high school in Bethalto and Wood River where he graduated in 1949. He lettered in basketball, baseball, softball and track. He continued his education at St. Louis University where he graduated in January of 1955, after serving two years in the United States Army in Japan and Korea.Frank married Evelyn Bourland in 1949, and they had two sons, Joseph and Mark. They were divorced in 1965. In June of 1969, he married Mary Helen Wiedman and they have one son, Michael. Mary Helen had two sons, from a previous marriage, Timothy and Matthew Wickenhauser. Mary Helen passed away in 2012. Frank and Evelyn remarried in 2014.Frank received his CPA certificate in 1963, and opened an accounting firm where his son, Joseph, later joined. In 1998, their firm merged with Scheffel & Co. where he remained employed until his retirement on May 1, 2011.He was appointed Treasurer of the Village of Bethalto in 1957, and held the position for thirty-five years until his son, Joseph, took over in 1992. He was a member of Bethalto Rotary since 1986, and also served as their treasurer and was a Paul Harris Fellow. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles since 1972.Frank was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Bethalto where he served as Lay Minister. He also served as treasurer, usher, deacon, and Sunday school teacher in other churches, serving the Lord.Frank was an avid golfer, and in 2011, he received the Gold Medal in both St. Louis Senior Olympics and the Illinois Senior Olympics.Frank is survived by his wife, Evelyn. Also, Frank is survived by his three sons and their spouses, Joseph and Denise Schoppet, Mark and Andrea Schoppet, Michael and Rosalind Schoppet; two step sons and their spouses, Timothy and Marcia Wickenhauser, Matthew and Susan Wickenhauser; his grandchildren and great grandchildren.Visitation will be from 9 am until time of service at 11 am on Tuesday, September 20, 2016, at Zion Lutheran Church with Pastor Mark Hofferber and Pastor Kale Hanson officiating.Burial will follow at Bethalto United Methodist Cemetery.Military rites will be performed by VFW Alton Post 1308.Memorials may be made to Boys and Girls Club of Bethalto, Murray Parent’s Association or Zion Lutheran Church.An online condolence and guest book may be found at www.eliaskallalandschaaf.com .
