Frances Steward

Frances G. Steward, 84, passed away at 5:02 a.m. on Friday, December 11, 2020, at her residence.  She was born on February 9, 1936, in Brighton, the daughter of the late William and Ruth (Mellenthin) Caffery.  She married Louis C. Steward, Sr. on July 18, 1952, in Cottage Hills, and he preceded her in death on April 23, 2005.  Survivors include two sons and daughters in law: Louis “Chuck” and Sharon Steward of Cottage Hills, Terry and Angel Steward of Cottage Hills, five grandchildren and their spouses: Kenneth and Annette Steward, Keith and Amy Steward, Korey and Kim Steward, Kyle and Megan Steward, Kayla and Dan Friedel,  five great grandchildren: Jacob Steward, Avery Steward, Kendyll Steward, Parker Steward, Tanner Steward, a sister: Mary Barks of Wood River, a brother and sister in law: James and Pat Caffery of Godfrey, many nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends.

A homemaker, Frances was a member of the Salvation Army in Alton.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by an infant son: Larry Joe, a sister: Betty Arbuthnot, and a half sister: Delois McDonough.

Due to the current Covid – 19 restrictions, private services will be held with burial at Upper Alton Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Alton Salvation Army Red Kettle Fund.
