Forrest Opperman

Forrest J. Opperman, 96, of Bethalto, IL, went to be with the Lord at 9:30 a.m. Thurs. July 13, 2018 at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born Dec. 18, 1921 in Vienna, MO to the late Frank & Margaret (Fulkerson) Opperman.

He married Ruby Loye June 9, 1945, and she preceded him in death on Oct. 1, 2000.  He then married Effie (Crump) Dugan on Aug. 13, 2016.  She survives in Bethalto.

Forrest was a WWII U.S. Navy veteran and later worked for and retired from Standard Oil Company as an Operator.  He was a member of Connect Church and loved soul winning as well as working hard and fishing.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son: Dennis (Karen) Opperman of Lee’s Summit, MO; a daughter: Cathy (Robert) Jones of Ellisville, MO; a step-son: Glen (Marty) Ray of Bethalto; 2 step-daughters: Carolyn (Loren) Stoeckel of South Roxana, IL and Janet Ray of Alton, IL; 5 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren.

Besides his first wife and parents, he was preceded in death by: a brother, Howard Opperman; and 2 sisters: Genevieve Terry and Bernice Hoffman.

Visitation will be 2-5 p.m. Sunday, July 15 at Paynic Home for Funerals, 618 East Airline Drive, East Alton, IL. There will also be visitation at Connect Church, 1417 Herbert Street, South Roxana, IL on Monday, July 16 from 10 a.m. until services begin at 11 a.m.  Pastor Dan Smith will officiate.

Burial will follow at Upper Alton Cemetery, with military honors by Alton VFW Post #1308 Ritual Team.
