Floyd Blaine

Floyd Blaine, Jr., 97, of East Alton, Illinois, died Tuesday, February 18, 2025.

He was born in Carbondale, Illinois, on May 12, 1927 to Floyd Blaine and Mary (Clausen) Blaine.

He is survived by his children, Kevin (Pam) Blaine of Edwardsville, Illinois and Kerry (Molly) Blaine of New Bloomfield, Missouri, his grandchildren, Jesse (Danielle) Blaine of Mansfield, Texas, Elizabeth Blaine of Chicago, Illinois, Meghan Blaine of Columbia, Missouri and Joshua (Andrea) Woods of Woodinville, Washington, and his great grandchildren Dylan Blaine, Lillian Blaine, Josephine Patenaude, Waylon Blaine, Sawyer Blaine, Blake Woods and Ava Woods.

Floyd graduated from Wood River High School in 1946 and subsequently joined the Navy, serving with the Seabees in the Pacific. He married Betty Smith in East Alton, Illinois on March 26, 1948.  He attended Shurtleff College in Alton, Illinois and the Rolla School of Mines in Rolla, Missouri where he earned a bachelor degree in mechanical engineering. He was a licensed professional engineer in both Illinois and Missouri.

Following graduation from the Rolla School of Mines he joined Olin Corporation in East Alton where he spent his entire career, retiring in 1983 as Vice President of Brass Engineering.

Floyd pursued many interests over his lifetime from completely restoring an MG TC sports car from the ground up to obtaining a private pilot’s license and building a Sonerai experimental aircraft which he flew to the air show in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. He was an avid golfer and a longtime member of Lockhaven Country Club. He especially enjoyed hunting and fishing. Most importantly he was a devoted family man to his entire family and a friend to many.

Floyd was preceded in death by his wife of 74 years, Betty, his parents, his brothers Henry Eugene Blaine and John C. Blaine and by his grandson, Cale Blaine.

Cremation rites have been accorded by Elias, Kallal, and Schaaf Funeral Home and Crematory, Godfrey, IL.
