Florence A. Schmitt, 84, passed away at 8:45 am on Tuesday, November 6, 2018 at Eden Village Nursing Home in Glen Carbon surrounded by her family.
She was born on April 12, 1934 in Ft. Russell Township, IL the daughter of the late Emil H. and Jessie I. (Bird) Paul.
Florence married Norman R. Schmitt at Eden Church in Edwardsville on September 23, 1950. He preceded her in death on March 25, 1999.
She was a member of Midway United Church of Christ and was the choir director and organist for 45 years. She taught herself how to play the piano at a very young age and continued to play piano throughout her life. She worked at Edwardsville School District in the cafeteria for 10 years. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
She is survived by 4 children and their spouses, Kathy L. (Randy) Long of Edwardsville, Ronnie N. Schmitt of Dorsey, Larry (Debbie) Schmitt of Dorsey; Karen (Steve) Bauer of Troy, IL; 6 grandchildren, Michael and Theresa Long, Michelle and Troy Hatfield, Tyler Schmitt, Blake Bauer, Brittany and David Meyer and Taylor Schmitt; 4 great grandchildren, Jacob, Kelly, Larkin, Claudie Jo.
In addition to her parents and husband she is preceded in death by a daughter, Kelly Jo; grandson, Nicholas Schmitt; 3 brothers and sisters-in-law, Albert and Betty Paul, Earl and June Paul and Emil and Pat Paul Jr.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 pm on Friday, November 9, 2018 at Midway United Church of Christ.
Funeral Service will be held at 10 am on Saturday, November 10, 2018 at the church with Pastor Lori Schafer officiating.
Burial will follow at Midway Cemetery.
