Evelyn Thompson

Evelyn Marie Thompson, 91, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 2:20 p.m. on Saturday, April 6, 2024, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville.  She was born September 20, 1932, in St. Louis, Missouri, a daughter of the late Edwin and Stella (Copeland) Miller.  She married Donald Eugene Thompson on June 24, 1961, in South Roxana and he survives. 

She retired from the government working at the Melvin Price Support Center after many years of service as a secretary.  She later worked seven years as a pharmacy courier at St. Elizabeth Medical Center.  Evelyn was a lifelong faithful member of Grace Baptist Church in Granite City where she had taught Sunday school through the years.  She enjoyed her days of fishing, cooking, shopping, decorating and tending to her yard.  She cherished her family, friends and church family and will be remembered for the love and special times shared with them. 

In addition to her beloved husband, she is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Lynn and Beth Jones of Moro; a daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Chris Hillmer of Granite City; seven grandchildren, Chris Morgan, Jason Morgan, Rachel (Jeffrey) Woodson, Leah (Jon) Sanchez, Eric Jones, Lauren (Kyle) Ulaszek and Lindsey Hillmer; several great grandchildren; a great-great grandson; nieces; nephews; other extended family and friends.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Morgan and a grandson, Brian Morgan.

In celebration of her life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City on Wednesday, April 10, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. until time of funeral service at 12:00 noon with Daniel Wilson officiating.  She will be laid to rest at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis.  Memorials may be made to Grace Baptist Church and may be accepted at the funeral chapel.  www.irwinchapel.com
