Evelyn “Evie” Shaw, age 98 of Greenville, passed away Tuesday, January 7, 2025, peacefully at Greenville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Greenville.
Interment will be in Mt. Auburn Cemetery. Services will be held at the Greenville Free Methodist Church 11 a.m. Saturday, February 15, 2025. Visitation will be held at the Donnell–Wiegand Funeral Home from 4-6 p.m. Friday, February 14, 2025, and from 10 a.m. until service time at the church on Saturday. Memorials may be made to the church.
Alma Evelyn Holcomb, the daughter of Robert Edwin and Laura Louella Young Holcomb, was born February 1, 1926, in Miller, Missouri. Evelyn was raised on the family farm in Miller, Missouri. She attended the one-room schools and graduated from Miller High School with the Class of 1948. She continued her education at McPherson Central College in Kansas. Evie worked for Farmer’s Alliance Insurance Company, and later did bookkeeping work for Mt. Vernon National Bank.
Evie and James Taylor Shaw were united in marriage on June 29, 1951, at the Miller Free Methodist Church. They enjoyed 45 years together before Jim passed away suddenly on August 18, 1997. Jim and Evie moved to Greenville in 1970 and raised their family. Evie was the custodian at the Greenville Free Methodist Church for 23 years. She always enjoyed being around and helping people. Evie volunteered for years with the Thrift Store and was a member of the Utlaut Memorial Hospital Auxiliary for many years. Evie and Jim were members of the Greenville Free Methodist Church, she was the oldest living member of the church.
Surviving are children: Edwin Shaw of Greenville, Marla Jean Pourchot and husband Joe of Greenville, Brent and wife Lolly Shaw of Greenville, and Lori B. Ellis and husband Wendel of Tribune, Kansas. Grandchildren: Matt (Jessica Schutz) Barber, Chris (Sara Ray) Barber, James (Jonia) Barber, Jocelyn (Ryan) Pourchot Sautman, Jesse (Ashley) Shaw, AJ Ellis, Cole (Blake) Pourchot Strode, Logan(Amanda) Shaw, Micah Ellis, Elle Shaw, Stevie (Austin) Ellis Penn, Annie (Lance) Ellis Hall; great-grandchildren: Mason Barber, Alison Barber, Evie Barber, Oliver Barber, Peyton Sautman, John Sautman, James Sautman, and Nora Sautman; great-grandchild, Oliver Penn, and many nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by her husband James, daughter Cheryl (Cheri) Ann Barber, and is the last of her generation, being preceded in death by her siblings Emma at a young age, Cecil Holcomb, Fay Crandall, Price Holcomb, Roy Holcomb, Veda Sheriff, Lucile Washam, Fern Hicks, and Harley Holcomb.
