Eugene Lewis Tyler, 83, of Moro, passed away on Monday, December 15, 2025, at his residence.
He was born on September 23, 1942, in Alton, the son of Alphus Woodrow and Violet Mabel (Leathers) Tyler. He married Barbara J. Christopher in Bethalto on February 11, 1963. She preceded him in death on May 7, 2017.
Eugene worked as a construction pipe-fitter for Local #553, beginning his career in 1962. He was baptized into the Vaughn Hill Church of Christ. A voracious reader, Eugene especially enjoyed science fiction, fantasy, some horror novels, and comics. He was also a dedicated fan of MMA, boxing, and professional wrestling. Eugene had a deep love for animals, particularly his beloved cat. Eugene was a very patriotic man. Above all else, the love he shared with his wife, Barb, was unwavering and never-ending.
Survivors include his children, David (Natalie) Tyler of Wood River, Michael Tyler of Meadowbrook, and Mark Tyler of Meadowbook; sister, Nancy Lee Tyler of Collinsville; grandchildren, Christopher Tyler, Tayler Edelen, Josh Edelen, Priyanka Echelon, Darryl Fahn, Destiny Salter, and Cory Houchlei; several well loved friends, including his best friend, Denny Barnard; and many extended family members.
Along with his wife Barb, he was preceded in death by his parents; and former daughter-in-law, Patricia Camp.
Per his wishes, cremation rites will be accorded by Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto. No services are scheduled at this time.
Memorials are suggested to The Wounded Warrior Project and/or St. Labre Indian School.
