Ethel B. Shelton, 92, of Medora, passed away unexpectedly at her home on May 1, 2026.
She was born on January 12, 1934, the daughter of Austin and Eleanor (Halliday) Jaynes.
On June 14, 1953, she married William “Bill” Shelton in Shipman. He preceded her in death in 2006.
Ethel was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Carlinville where she helped with many events and dinners. She deeply loved her family and friends and enjoyed spending time with them. Throughout the years, she enthusiastically cheered on her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and friends at their numerous sporting events and activities. Every week, she got together with her close friends at various restaurants in Carlinville. Ethel was co-owner of Shipman Locker and Westgate Restaurant and later ran her own business – Shelton License and Title until she was 90 years old.
Survivors include two sons: Richard (Bonnie) Shelton of Shipman, IL and Dale Shelton of Decatur, IL; seven grandchildren: Ryan Shelton of Wood River, IL, Kyle Shelton of Naples, FL, Stephanie (Joshua) Schuette of Shipman, IL, Jennifer (Chad) Bowker of Medora, IL, Nathan (Mattie) Shelton of Shipman, IL, Lindsey Shelton of St. Louis, MO, and Sydney (C.J.) Weseman of Tucson, AZ; ten great-grandchildren: Keira Shelton, Josiah Schuette, Ethan Schuette, Malia Bowker, Braden Bowker, Benjamin Schuette, Steiger Shelton, Max Weseman, Owen Shelton, and Logan Weseman; one great-great-granddaughter: Carsyn McMillen; one sister: Mary Jean Reno; and many nieces and nephews who will miss her dearly.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William; parents, Austin and Eleanor; sister, Delores Alward; sister-in-law, Jean Loy; and brothers-in-law, John Reno, Leslie Alward, and Harry Loy.
Visitation for Ethel will be held from 4 pm to 7 pm on Friday, May 8, 2026, at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Carlinville.
Funeral Service will be held at 10 am on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Carlinville.
Burial will follow in Shipman Cemetery.
