Ethel M. Acord, 80, died at 1:45 pm Thursday July 16, 2009 at Alton Memorial Hospital with her family by her side.

She was born on August 20, 1928, in Pearl, IL. The daughter of Howard and Beryl (Renoud) Lane.

Ethel was formerly married to Ralph E. Acord in August of 1948. He passed away in January of 1973.

She was a member of the Vaughn Hill church of Christ in Wood River. She worked at Hutchinson's Foundry for 21 years as a machine operator retiring in 1992. She also was a cafeteria server for the North Elementary School for 13 years retiring in February of 2009. Ethel loved animals, and was always taking in strays. She was a great cook, and enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

Ethel is survived by two daughters; LaVeeda James and her spouse Robert of Jerseyville, IL. and Marilyn Acord of Cottage Hills, IL. two grandchildren; Robert James and Matthew James, four sisters; Edna Murdock of AZ, Freda Howland of Milton, IL. Judy Withrow of IN. and Rosemary Rayburn of IN. One step-sister; Flora Schlieper of Jacksonville, IL, two brothers; Lawrence Lane of Pearl, IL. and Russell Lane of East Alton, IL. One step-brother; Richard Morgan of N.C. and numerous Nieces and Nephews

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by a step-mother; Helen (Butler) Lane and two sisters; Gladys Harbin and Veda Weeks.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm Monday, July 20, 2009 at the Elias Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton, where funeral services will be held at 10 am Tuesday July 21, 2009 with the Rev. Patrick Harper Officiating.

Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens, Bethalto, IL.

Memorials may be made to the Vaughn Hill Church of Christ, Wood River, IL. .
