Esther R. DeWerff

Esther R. DeWerff, 97, went to be with the Lord at 12:40 pm Tuesday, December 18, 2012 at Rosewood Care Center in Alton. 

She was born on March 23, 1915 in Bethalto, IL, the daughter of the late Henry and Rebecca (Balsters) Heeren. 

She married Edwin H. DeWerff on December 20, 1936 at Zion Lutheran Church in Bethalto.  He passed away on December 20, 2002. They lived on the family farm their entire married life.  She devoted her life to her husband and family and will sadly be missed by them all.

Esther was a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church in Bethalto.  She was a member of the Ladies Aid and the Quilters Guild and the Altars Guild of the church and was a Sunday School teacher. 

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Rev. Dr. Robert and Annette DeWerff of Shoreview, MN; a daughter and son-in-law, Charlene and Larry Bandy of Moro; six grandchildren, Robin Halemeyer, Gail Akeman, Matthew Bandy, Jason Rahn, Jessica Rahn and Aaron DeWerff; and eight great grandchildren, Hayley Day, David Akeman, Caleb Rahn, Jenna Rahn, Alexie Ferbeyre, Tyler Ferbeyre, Sam Heyen and Lucas Bandy, and a brother and sister-in-law, Leroy and Charlotte Heeren of Bethalto.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband and a brother, Elmer Heeren.

Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Friday, December 21, 2012 at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto. 

Funeral services will be at 10:00 am Saturday, December 22, 2012 at Zion Lutheran Church with Pastor Willard Meyer and Pastor Mark Hofferber officiating.

Burial will follow at Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Bethalto.

Memorials may be made to United in Mission or Zion’s Altar Guild
