Esta Hunter

Esta E. Hunter, 87, died Saturday, April 11, 2020 at Riverside Rehab and Healthcare in Alton. 


She was born in Reyno, Arkansas on May 30, 1932 and was the daughter of Leslie J. and Hazel Vera (Murrell) Rodgers. 


Esta worked for a number of years as a Licensed Practical Nurse at Alton Memorial Hospital. 


She married William Hubert Hunter on September 17, 1967 at the First Baptist Church in Jerseyville and together they shared in 49 years of marriage, prior to his death on December 14, 2016. 


Surviving are five children, Mike Lawson of Denton, TX; Tom Lawson of Palm Coast, FL; Patricia Gilomen of Orlando, FL; Jeff Lawson of Oldmar, FL; and Steve (Cindy) Hunter of Godfrey; two step children, Kathy Eckhoff of Camdenton, MO and Ken Hunter of West Chester, OH; seven grandchildren, Stephen Lawson and Matt Lawson; Stephanie Smith; Chris Collins; Jeremy Lawson; and Max and Gwen Hunter; two step-grandchildren, Ben and Wyn Hunter; nine great-grandchildren, Maggie, John David and Emily Collins; Jada and Jaidyn Rivera; and Cedric, Cierra, Caiden and Carter McCloud. 


In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Richard Dale Lawson; two brothers, Carl and Harold Rodgers; as well as a sister, Linda Rodgers. 


Due to COVID-19 mandates, private services will be held and she will be laid to rest at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville.
