Eric Stephen Brown, 58, of Staunton, IL, passed away on October 9, 2026.
Born on January 23, 1968, Eric was a familiar and welcoming presence in his community, especially to those who knew him from behind the bar at Mr. T's. For many, that was where they first came to know Eric and his friendly personality. Whether greeting a familiar face or meeting someone new, Eric always had a smile or a story to share.
Eric had a special place in his heart for animals, especially stray cats. He never met a stray cat he did not want to help, always making sure they had food and someone looking out for them. His compassion for animals reflected his kind and caring heart.
Eric is survived by his mother, Rose Karl of Staunton, IL; his sisters, Carrie Vercoglio of Mt. Olive, IL, Dana Brown of Bunker Hill, IL, and Tiffani (Mark) Pirok of Staunton, IL. He is also survived by his nephews, Troy Vercoglio, Dakota Myatt, Trenton Vercoglio, and Trey Schlechte; and his nieces, Taylar Schlechte, Cheyenne Myatt, and Teran Schlechte.
Eric will be remembered for his friendly smile, his love of animals, and the countless familiar faces he greeted throughout the years. He was a cherished part of the community in his own special way, and his absence will be deeply felt by many.
Though his familiar smile will be missed, the kindness he showed to both people and animals will never be forgotten. Eric will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched.
