Emma K. “Kitty” Holt, 89, died at 5:27 p.m. Saturday October 5, 2013 at her home in Godfrey.
Born February 21, 1924 in Nilwood, IL, she was the daughter of the late Clarence E. and Bessie Bell (Boston) Sharp. Mrs. Holt was a member of the Godfrey Congregational Church and a former member of the Women’s Auxiliary at Owens-Illinois.
She worked at Sears and Venture as a retail clerk before retiring in 1978. On January 14, 1943 she married John J. Holt in Gulfport, Mississippi. They recently celebrated 70 years of marriage.
Along with her husband she is survived by a daughter, Janet Thomason (Arthur “Art”) of Mesa, AZ, two sons, Larry Holt (Cindy) of Brighton, and Bill Holt (Liz Lasorsa) of Los Gatos, CA, a daughter-in-law, Christy Holt of Alton, seven grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren, a sister, Betty VonBehren (Joe) of Mesa, AZ, and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Sharp of Lewistown, IL. She was preceded in death by a son, Jim Holt, a great-great grandson, Landon Ryan Holmes, two brothers, Wayne and Leo Sharp, and a sister, Joy Lester.
Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 8, 2013 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton where funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 9, 2013. Reverend Irene Gulveston will officiate. Burial will be at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey.
