Emma Talley

Emma Ellen Talley, 83, died at 3:02 a.m., Monday, February 27, 2012 at Jersey Community Hospital after a brief illness. She was born in a log cabin just north of Fieldon on Sept. 17, 1928, the last surviving child born to Foster Louis & Sophrona A. (Glowner) Scoggins.

She was a homemaker by choice, and enjoyed caring for her home and her family. She married George John Talley on Jan. 18, 1946 in Hardin, and they shared 58 years together before his death on July 16, 2004.

Surviving are her five children & their spouses, Marjorie & Maurice Thompson of Napa Valley, Ca., Leon & Barbara Talley of Jerseyville, John Talley, and his partner, Steve McGibany of Collinsville, Sharon & Mike Cameron of Jerseyville, and Bill & Patricia Talley of Rosewood Heights; 10 Grandchildren; Five Great Grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband; four brothers, Middleton Scoggins, Emil Scoggins, Ernest Meeks and Everett Meeks; four sisters, Virginia Miller, Mary Walker, Daisy Scott, Ethel Glowner, and an infant sister, Levina Scoggins.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday. Rev. Wilbur Cain will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville.

Memorials may be given to the American Heart Association or to the Susan B. Komen Foundation in honor of Emma's successful battle with breast cancer.
