Emily Idella "Idy" Bridgewater, 85, died Monday, September 10, 2018 at the home of her daughter in Nixa, Mo, surrounded by her family after a long illness.
She was born in Rockbridge, Il., on December 24, 1933, the daughter of William Claude and Beulah Ellen (Brooks) Davis.
For many years she was employed as a sales clerk at Rudolph's Department Store in downtown Jerseyville, and her upbeat and pleasant personality made her a perfect fit.
She was a precious woman, who enjoyed quilting, embroidery, cooking, and being surrounded by her family, whom she loved more than anything. She was also a devoted member of the First Baptist Church, and she enjoyed volunteering there through the years.
She married the love of her life, Russell R. Bridgewater on June 17, 1951 at the First Baptist Church in Jerseyville, and their life together spanned nearly 48 years before his death on May 27, 1999.
She is survived by three children and their spouses, Cynthia and Charles Schmidt of Nixa, Mo., Tarry and LugeneBridgewater of Iowa City, Iowa, and Todd Bridgewater of Corpus Christi, Tx.; Nine Grandchildren; 35 Great Grandchildren; six great great grandchildren, with one on the way; a sister and brother in-law, Sandra and William Klunk of Jerseyvile; and many friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Robert Bridgewater on Aug. 7, 2015; a granddaughter, Dana Marie Bridgewater; two great grandsons, Joshua Allen Grizzle and Don Taylor Grizzle; two brothers, Hubert "Gene" Davis and Claude "Buzz" Davis; and a sister, Flois Parish.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church in Jerseyville, with Rev. Brent Meyers officiating.
She will be laid to rest alongside her husband at the Kane Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to the First Baptist Church Youth Group.
