Elouise McMahon

Elouise A. McMahon, 83, of Wood River, passed away on Monday, January 25, 2021 at Bethalto Villas of Holly Brook.

She was born on November 22, 1937 in Barton, MO, the daughter of Noah J. and Corena (Lenz) Cartee. She married Kenneth W. McMahon in Roxana at the Nazarene Church on October 5, 1956. He preceded her in death on January 13, 2013.

Elouise retired from Roxana school district as a cafeteria supervisor, where she also graduated from. She was the secretary and treasurer for the Wanda Methodist Church. She volunteered at the Hope Center and taught illiterate adults to read. She enjoyed gardening, yard work and liked to play Canasta. Elouise also loved spending time with her friends and family.

She is survived by her children and their spouses, Stephen W. McMahon and Dana Almeter of Worden, IL, Bryan L. and Jane McMahon of Midway and Kathy L. and Dan Bunt of Wood River; six grandchildren, Lindsay and Ben Dugger, Stephanie and Jake Terry, Abby McMahon, Joshua Giddings, Jessica Giddings and Jude “J.P.” Giddings; three sisters-in-law, Roselyn and Jim Grant of Bonnie, IL, Sharlene and Robert Meyer of Lake of the Ozarks, and Melba Cartee of St. Genevieve, MO; and a special friend, Darlene Runge of Bethalto.

Along with her parents and husband, Kenneth, she was preceded in death by two brothers, James Lee and Ruth Cartee, and George Cartee; and a sister, Mary Lou Stevens.

Due to COVID-19, CDC guidelines will be followed. Visitation will be on Friday January 29, 2021 from 9:30 am until time of service at 11 am at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto. Pastor Phil Bender will officiate. Burial will follow at Wanda Cemetery. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Association and/or Backstoppers.
