Elmer Welling

Elmer E. Welling, 86, of Fosterburg, passed away at 5:37 pm on Friday, January 19, 2024, at Alton Memorial Hospital. He was born on December 25, 1937, in Fosterburg, to Lester "Chick" and Dorothy (Brueggemann) Welling. Elmer married Barbara (Tyler) on May 8, 1966, at Messiah Lutheran Church in Alton.

Elmer worked as a Pull Tractor Driver for Alton Glassworks for over 28 years before retiring. He was an active member of the Fosterburg Senior Citzens. Elmer loved watching Cardinals baseball, going on Spring trips to Texas, and attending auctions where he enjoyed looking at tractors and searching for bargains. He also loved building and working around the farm.

Along with his wife, Barbara, Elmer is survived by his three sons, Benjamin "Butch" Welling, Andrew "Andy" Welling, and Christopher "Cricket" Welling; sister, Marilyn Lobbig; two brothers, Leo Welling and Allen Welling; two grandchildren, Ryan Jeffrey Welling and Derick Benjamin Welling; and great-grandchild, Violet Marie Welling.

Along with his parents, Lester and Dorothy Welling, he was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Hannah Marie Welling.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, from 4 pm until 7 pm at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January, 24, 2024, at 11 am at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton with Pastor Bob Harris officiating.

Per his wishes, cremation rites will be accorded after the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Shriners Children's Hospital or the Hope Center in Cottage Hills.
