Elmer L. McAdams, 83, passed from this life on November 19, 2012 at Mercy Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. Born December 28, 1928 in Marshall, Missouri, he was the son of Earl and Lucille McAdams. On May 15, 1949, he married Selma (Tohline) McAdams in West Plains, Missouri. She survives.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He retired from Acme Brick Company (Alton Brick) after 44 years of service. He accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of the Heartland Baptist Church of Alton, Illinois.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Carol (Jerry) Moore of O’Fallon, Illinois and Barb (Rob) Cummings of Maryland Heights, Missouri; four grandchildren, John (Katie) Moore, Erin Moore, Jacob Cummings, and Michelle Cummings; one brother, Joel (Virginia) McAdams of Mississippi; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Velma Sellers, Iona Roark, and Lucy Summers; and one brother, David McAdams.
Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, November 23, 2012 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton and continue from 9:00 a.m. until time of funeral service at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 24, 2012 at Heartland Baptist Church. Reverend Jim Grant will officiate. Burial will be in Upper Alton Cemetery with full military honors by the VFW Post 1308.
