Elke Olga Monroe, 85, passed away unexpectedly at 8:44 p.m., Thursday, March 7, 2024 at her home in Jerseyville.
She was born to Bruno and Gertrud Hamann in Dresden, Germany on August 19, 1938, where she was raised and graduated High School.
She married George German on February 12, 1963 and together they were the parents of two daughters, Janet and Jessica.
She later married Robert Edward Monroe on June 29, 1985 at Hope Lutheran Church in Jerseyville, sharing in 20 years of marriage prior to his death on September 25, 2005.
She was employed with Jersey Community Hospital, where she was as a Purchasing Agent, retiring in 1992 after 18 years of service to the organization. Following her retirement, she was proud of the work that she and her husband did in “Bad Windsheim”, Germany as well as her special achievements working with the German American League and Culture Society.
Surviving are a daughter and son-law, Janet and Alan Foster of Jerseyville; a son in-law, Timothy Hartley of Royal Lakes; three grandchildren, Christopher Hartley and Rodney and Ethan Foster; as well as a sister, Heike Little of Savannah, Georgia.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Jessica Hartley; a grandson, Timothy Hartley and two brothers, Hark and Uve Hamann.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, March 13, 2024 at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 10 a.m., Thursday at Hope Lutheran Church in Jerseyville with Rev. David Otten officiating.
Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville.
