Elizabeth Ely

Elizabeth Caroline Ely, 86, died at 5:20 p.m. Thursday, March 7, 2013 at Delmar Gardens on the Green in Chesterfield, MO. Born March 24, 1926 in Godfrey, she was the daughter of Joseph H. and Caroline (Nolan) Schetter. She was a member of Cherry Street Baptist Church in Alton. On October 10, 1946 she married Kenneth Leroy Ely in Alton. He preceded her in death on December 29, 1979.

Surviving are three daughters, Marilyn Shook (Ralph) of Hemet, CA, Marge Mathus (Robert) of High Ridge, MO, and Marie Hargis (Mark) of Columbia, IL, seven grandchildren, Rhonda Suematsu (Phil), Brian Mathus (Maggie), Brent Mathus (Kristen), Blake Ely (Kendra), P.J. Ely (Amber), Kyle Hargis, and Katelyn Hargis, nine great grandchildren, Ryan Suematsu, Carter, Riley, Spencer, Gwyneth, and Cooper Mathus, and Grant, Grayson, and C.J. Ely, two sisters, Barbara Joehl and Caroline Witt, and a sister-in-law, Pat Schetter. She was preceded in death by a son, Richard J. Ely and three sisters, Ann Heafner, Josephine Tipsword, and Kristine Kraushaar, and two brothers, Joseph and Leon Schetter.

A celebration of life memorial service will be held at a later date.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Delmar Gardens on the Green in Chesterfield, MO, or Pathways Hospice in Chesterfield, MO.
