Elena L. Bodi, 74, of Granite City, Illinois passed away peacefully at 6:58 p.m. on Friday, January 26, 2024, at her home with her family at her side.
She was born May 12, 1949, at St. Joseph Hospital in Alton, Illinois, a daughter of the late Raymond and Frances (Sanchez) Vasques.
She married Anthony J. “Tony” Bodi on December 1, 1979, in Granite City and he passed away on October 28, 2021.
Elena had worked as a supervisor with Color Process Printing Company in St. Louis for several years. She attended Holy Family Catholic Church in Granite City and had a love for animals and was known for keeping a clean and tidy home. She cherished her entire family and will be remembered for the love and special times shared with her family and friends.
She is survived by a daughter, Tina Vasques of Granite City; a son, Salvador (Roxy) Toro of Troy, Missouri; two stepsons, Mark (Terri) Bodi of Granite City and Richard Bodi of Granite City; nine grandchildren, Heather (Scott Mills) Hayes, Salvador Toro III, Gabriella Toro, Salena Toro, Jeremy Bishop, Chad Collins, Raeanna (James) Robbins, Kelsey Bodi and Tyler Bodi; many great grandchildren; two sisters, Hilda Vasques of Granite City and Lydia (Jim) Slayton of Fairmont City; a brother, Pete Vasques of Fairmont City; many nieces; nephews; other extended family and friends.
In addition to her beloved husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Gloria Vasques and Linda Rodriguez and a brother, Richard Ramos.
In celebration of her life, a memorial visitation will be held at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City on Friday, February 23, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. until time of a memorial service at 12:00 noon with Father Steve Thompson officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Edwardsville. Memorials may be made to the Shriner’s Hospital for Children and may be accepted at the funeral chapel. www.irwinchapel.com
