Eldon Manning Bowler, 81, of Godfrey, IL, passed away at 2:40 a.m. Tues. Nov. 3, 2015 at his home surrounded by his family while under hospice care.

He was born Oct. 5, 1934 in Roxana, IL to the late Francis M. & Grace A. (Lawrence) Bowler.

On Aug. 5, 1955, he and Rose Mary “Rosie” Paynic were married in Wood River, IL.  She preceded him in death on Aug. 15, 2006 after 51 years of marriage.

Eldon served in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1959.  He then went on to work for Granite City Steel retiring in 1992 as a maintenance supervisor after 37 years of service.  Upon retirement he worked for Paynic Home for Funerals and Fine Funeral Homes and was a member of the Moose Lodge #1349.

Survivors include: a son, Michael Bowler of Godfrey and a daughter and son-in-law, Paula Bowler & Steve Dickman of Tempe, AZ, 2 grandchildren through marriage, Jonathon (Shelby) Dickman and Jennifer Dickman and a very special friend, Louise Schlobohm of Bunker Hill, IL.

Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Grace Mae Oller Patterson.

Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Fri. Nov. 6, 2015 at Paynic Home for Funerals.  Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Sat. Nov. 7, 2015 at the United Presbyterian Church of Wood River.  Burial with military honors will be at the Bethalto United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to O.S.F. St. Anthony’s Hospice or the United Presbyterian Church of Wood River.
