Elbie Milazzo, 75, died Friday, January 19, 2024 at OSF St. Anthony’s Hospital. He was born to Anna (Wooden) and Louis Milazzo of East Alton on April 18, 1948. He graduated from Roxana High School in 1966 and went on to graduate with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Education from SIUE. He worked for Fairmount Park as a mutual teller for 37 years in Collinsville, Springfield, Quincy and Alton. Mr. Milazzo was a devout Catholic whose faith was the most important thing throughout his life. He knew no strangers and made an indelible impression on everyone whose path he crossed. He was an outstanding athlete in high school, participating in both baseball and wrestling, and his competitive nature stayed with him. He loved to play games with his friends and family, and was always up for a challenge, whether it was a game of ping pong, tennis or a round of golf. He also had an affinity for music from the 1960s and 70s. One of his favorites was the Letter by the Box Tops from 1967. A lyric in the song is, "Lonely days are gone, I'm a-goin' home." He is home now, RIP.
He is survived by his nephews Rob Milazzo (Annette) of Bethalto and Andrew Weaver (Jessica) of Maple Grove, Minnesota; nieces Dia Milazzo of Bethalto, Gina Coates (Craig) of Alton, Whitney Deken (Stewart) of St. Louis and Courtney Gilson (Nathan) of Rosewood Heights; brother-in-law Walt Weaver of Godfrey, sister-in-law Sharon Milazzo of Bethalto, and his favorite cousin Brenda Mormino of Florida.
He was preceded in death by his parents Louis and Anna Milazzo, brother Vincent Larry Milazzo and sister Nancy Weaver.
