Eileen Cassens

Eileen Mary Cassens, 81, died suddenly at 9:36 a.m., Monday, December 12, 2016 at her residence.

She was born in Medford, Massachusetts on May 16, 1935 to Desire and Celeste (Saulnier) Saulnier, who originated from Nova Scotia Canada.She was raised with her two siblings, and graduated from Medford High School in 1953.She married William James Cassens on Feb. 24, 1957 in Sommerville, Ma., and together they were the parents of three sons.  For the first 12 years of their marriage they resided in St. Louis, where Eileen worked in various accounting firms, namely Haskins & Sells, until moving to Grafton in 1969. It was there that the family operated a bait and tackle store for many years, and she became an active and loyal member of the St. Patrick's Catholic Church.  She and Bill were able to enjoy their family with the addition of their grandchildren, until his death on Oct. 25, 2003.Surviving are her three sons & daughters in law, Mike & JoannieCassens of Grafton, David & Cheryl Cassens of Michael, and James & Helen Cassens of Jerseyville; six grandchildren & their spouses, Jason & Stephanie Gotway of Troy, Jason & Beth Cassens of Muscatine, Iowa, Racheal & Jared Jones of Bethalto, Vincent Cassens of Godfrey, Kelli Cassens and her fiance' Quinten Travers of Jerseyville, and Ryan Cassens of Edwardsville; three great grandchildren, EmricGotway and Alex and Abigail Cassens; a sister, Lorraine Miller of South Hampton, Ma.; and a very dear sister in law, Shirley Calvert of Grafton.In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Saulnier.Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Grafton, where a Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11 a.m. Friday.  Father Patrick Gibbons will officiate.Burial will be in Scenic Hill Cemetery in Grafton.Memorials may be given to the American Diabetes Association, American Heart Association or to Masses.Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville is in charge of the arrangements.
