Edwin John Schaberg, age 92, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 17, 2025, at Jerseyville Community Hospital.
Born on January 27, 1933, in Alton, IL, Ed was the eldest child of Edwin and Helen (Leady) Schaberg. A lifelong resident of Godfrey, IL, he graduated from Marquette High School in 1950 and proudly served in the United States Navy from October 1951 to August 1953.
On June 20, 1959, Ed married Ruby (Stice) Schaberg at St. Mary’s Church in Alton. He later earned a degree in Business from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, graduating in 1962.
Ed dedicated 37 years of service to the Olin Corporation, where he worked as Purchasing Director until his retirement. He was a devoted member and usher at St. Mary’s Church and actively participated in the Knights of Columbus and the Eagles.
He is survived by his daughter Teri and son-in-law Matt Baahlmann; grandchildren, Matt Korte (Kortney), Nick Korte (Clair Visconti), Matthew Baahlmann (Katelyn), and Jill Schoonover (Johnie) all of Godfrey, IL; his son Timothy and daughter-in-law Blythe Schaberg; and grandchildren, Jack and Madison Schaberg all of Dunlap, IL. Ed was also blessed with six great-grandchildren: Keagan, Jaxton, Christopher, Olivia, Charlotte, and Hunter.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Ruby, his parents Edwin and Helen, and his brother Ronald Schaberg.
Ed enjoyed golfing (2 holes in one) with friends and family, duck hunting, fishing, gardening, woodworking, and collecting Lionel trains. He was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and the St. Louis Blues.
The family would like to thank Charter of Godfrey and Jerseyville Manor nursing home for all their love and care for Ed over the past 7 years.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 1, 2025 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton, IL. Burial will be at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey.
Memorials may be made to Marquette High School or St Jude Children's Research Hospital.
