Edwin A. Mathias, age 82 died at 3:49 PM on Friday, November 25, 2016 at Rosewood Care Center in Alton. He was born on November 25, 1934 in East Alton the son of the late Edward L. and Virginia Mae (Eades) Mathias. Ed was a U.S. Army veteran stationed in Germany with the 30th F.A. Battalion and retired after 43 years as an electrician with the Boeing Corporation in St. Louis. He was formerly a member St. Matthews Catholic Church in Alton and currently a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Godfrey; and also enjoyed Boating, Bowling and mall walking. On October 10, 1969 he married the former Judith Walk and she survives.Also surviving are two children; Edwin Mathias Jr (Cathy) of Alton and Karen Mathias of California, three step children; Richard Plunk (Martha), Linda Pritchett (David) and Lisa Landers (Greg), 9 grandchildren; Richard Mathias (Molly), Pamela Mathias, Jason Plunk, Lauren Klimek (Mark), Michael Pritchett (Jennifer), Matthew Pritchett (Samantha), Meghan Pritchett, Sasha Seymour (Michael) and Shea Landers, 7 great grandchildren; Henry Mathias, Zoe, Blaze, Carlie Pritchett, Clayton Pritchett, Evlynn Pritchett and Emersyn Pritchett, three sisters; Barbara Guthrie (Tom) of Brighton, Mary Johnson of Godfrey, Rita Mathis (Cliff) of Marble Hill, MO. and one brother; James Mathias (Beth) of Olathe, KS.Visitation will be from 4:00 -7:00 PM on Wednesday at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Godfrey where a Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday with Fr. Steve Pohlman officiating. Burial will be in Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey with full military honors by VFW Post 1308.
