GRAFTON - Edward Keith "Eddie" Lester, 66, died at 6:25 p.m., Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at Evelyn's House in CreveCouer, Missouri after a courageous battle with lung cancer.He was born in Quarry Township in Jersey County, Il., on October 2, 1951, and was the son of Virel and Inelda (Duff) Lester.Eddie graduated in 1969 from Jersey Community High School, and had been employed as a crane operator at Laclede Steel Company, dedicating 28 years prior to the plant closing. He then began working as a truck driver for Maul Excavating for the past several years.He married the former Laura Wallace on May 14, 1983 in Grafton, and together they have shared their life together for the last 34 years.Surviving are his wife, Laura Lester of Grafton; two sons and a daughter in law, Keith and Amber Lester of Grafton and Jordan Lester of Fieldon; two sisters and brothers in law, Earlene and Dennis Zimmerman of Dow and Joyce and Doug Harlan of Dow; two brothers and sisters in law, Kenny and Brenda Lester of Granite City and Mike and Diane Lester of Rosewood Heights; his father in law, Gene Wallace of Grafton; and six sisters in law and brothers in law, JacqueScroggins of Alton, Ross and Carolyn Wallace of Valrico, Florida, Sandi and Mike Flowers of Grafton, Beth Mundy of Jerseyville, Kevin and Cheryl Wallace of Alton, and Kenny Wallace of Jerseyville; 11 Nephews, 11 Nieces, 25 Great Nephews, 15 Great Nieces, and one Great Great Nephew.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Phillip Douglas Lester on Nov. 20, 2002; a brother, Darrell Q. Lester on Aug. 23, 2001; a brother, Timothy Lester in infancy; a sister, Carol Lester in infancy; a niece, April Jessica Harlan on May 23, 1993; a nephew, Adam Christopher Kadell on July 19, 1994; and his mother in law, Barbara "Babs" Wallace.Memorial Visitation will take place from 10 a.m. Saturday until time of memorial services at 2 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.Immediately following the services, friends and family are encouraged to continue to join the family for a celebration at the Grafton American Legion.In lieu of any flowers and plants, memorials may be given to the family to assist with medical expenses.
