Edward F. Hillen, 85, passed away at 9 pm on Sunday, February 12, 2017 at home.
He was born on January 7, 1932 in Meppen, IL, the son of the late Henry and Dorothy (Smith) Hillen.
He married Bernadine (Tepen) on April 11, 1959 in Carrolton. She survives.
Edward was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Meppen. He was a retired farmer and worked for Olin Corporation for 12 years. He was an avid Cardinals Baseball fan, enjoyed fishing, hunting, listening to the radio, ice skating, and hockey on Swan Lake.
In addition to his wife, Bernadine, he is survived by six children and their spouses, Kevin (Kate) Hillen of Plainfield, IL, Laura (Jim) Hazelwonder of Hardin, IL, Sandra (Vernon) Harris of Worden, IL, Patricia (Doug) Romano of Imperial, MO, Lorraine Hillen of Hardin, IL, and Bruce Hillen of Meppen, IL; thirteen grandchildren, Tony, Michaela, and Claudia Hillen, Alexandra Harris, Nick, and Tyler Hazelwonder, Suzi Gerson, Shawn Bizaillion, Abby Harris, Allison, Andrew, Jessica, and Luke Romano; four great grandchildren, Maeve Hillen, Landon Hazelwonder, C.J. and Emma Gerson; a sister, Elsie Kirn of Batchtown, IL.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers Cliff and Joseph Hillen; three sisters Margaret Woelfel, Helen Woelfel, and Louis Narup; two infant sons.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at Gress, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Brussels.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am Thursday, February 16, 2017 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Meppen with Fr. Don Roberts celebrant.
Burial will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Meppen.
Memorials may be made to St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Blessing Hospice, or a charity of family’s choice.
