Edward Hamlin

Edward A. "Ed" Hamlin, 90, died Thursday, November 16, 2017 in Creve Coeur, MO.

He was born February 25, 1927 to Alma and Clarence Hamlin in Springfield IL.

He is survived by his sons, Mark Hamlin of Missouri and Mike Hamlin in California; grandson, Matt in Colorado; twin brother, George (Gloria) in Missouri; and George's children, Carolyn, Bill and Bob all in Missouri.

Ed and his brother joined the army in 1944.  After the army, Ed attended and graduated from the University of Illinois.

On May 13, 1951, he married Charlene Ann Albrecht in Wood River.  She died May 20, 2011.

After working at GAMC, Ed joined Albrecht Chevrolet in Wood River.  The company became Albrecht-Hamlin Chevrolet in the 1970's.  Ed served there for over 55 years as a sales manager, then President, then C.E.O. until its closing in 2008.

Ed was involved in numerous automotive organizations, such as serving as the chairman of the Illinois Automobile Dealers Association.  He served on local boards including the Roxana School Board, Lewis and Clark Community College Board, Growth Association, three banking boards and many more.

He was a longtime member  of the Lions Club and attended St. John United Church of Christ in Wood River for nearly 60 years.

A private, family service will be conducted in Wood River with burial following in Valley View Cemetery in Edwardsville.
