Shipman |

Edna Mae Foiles, 88, of Shipman, passed away on Tuesday, January 16, 2024, at Jerseyville, Manor.

She was born on February 22, 1935, in Shipman, the daughter of the late Charles L. and Henrietta (Travers) Johnson. Following her father’s passing at a young age, Henrietta married Arthur Allen Huckelbridge Sr., who then helped raise Mae.

Mae married Robert L. Foiles on May 22, 1953, in Carlinville. They cherished 62 wonderful years of marriage, prior to his passing on May 17, 2016.

After raising their children, Mae attended college and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. She taught Special Education at Carlinville Middle School for 20 years.  During that time Mae and her sister-in-law, Josephine, took a class on basket weaving at LCCC.  They created JoMae Baskets.  They wove hundreds of baskets and taught many others the art as well. After retiring, Mae and Bob traveled to the southern states during the winter in their RV.  They loved camping and making new friends along the way. Mae loved her family, especially her grandchildren. It always put a smile on her face when she heard “GRANDMA MAE, I’M HERE”.

Mae is survived by two children, Garland (Joni) Foiles of Medora and Deonia (Dale) Mathis of Shipman; daughter in law, Rosie Foiles of Shipman.; five grandchildren, Nikole Salzman, Letoyia (Clayton) Van Daley, Preston (Chelsie) Mathis, Dakota Foiles (Kim Kessinger), and Clinton (Kassy) Foiles; seven great grandchildren, Shelby (Colin) Edwards, Brady Salzman, Nola Mae VanDaley, Daisy Mae Foiles, Tori Kessinger, Serena Stassi, and Ian Stassi; three siblings, Alice Kennamann, Jane Calvert, and Arthur Allen (Beverly) Huckelbridge.
