Edith (Marshall) Bridges, 97, died at 9:25 a.m., Friday, June 15, 2018 at Jerseyville Manor.
She was born in Greene County on October 23, 1920, and was one of two daughters born to the late William and Harriett (Carr) Marshall.
She was the former owner of Edith’s Tavern in Fieldon as well as The Diner in Jerseyville and also worked as a cook at M&H Café and A&W Root Beer, both in Jerseyville.
She married William L. Bridges on December 8, 1962 in Jerseyville and together they shared in 24 years of marriage before his death on April 4, 1987.
Surviving are two daughters, Genevieve Tepen of Jerseyville and Janet Hill of Batchtown; a step-son, Robert Bridges; two daughters in-law, Patricia Bridges of Elsah and Barb Bridges of Jerseyville; as well as numerous grandchildren and extended family members.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Rodger Thornton on July 19, 2007; two daughters, Shirley at 15 days old and Patricia at birth; two step-sons, Gary and Bill Bridges; a sister, Cleda Cope; as well as two sons in-law, Victor Tepen and Curtis Hill.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of funeral services at 12 p.m., Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Edith’s great-grandson, Brian Hutchinson will officiate.
Burial will take place at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville.
In lieu of flowers or plants, memorials may be given to the family in care of Crawford Funeral Home.
