Edith Mae Lovato

Edith passed away at 11:10 p.m. on June 21, 2016 at Jerseyville Nursing and Rehab Center. She was born July 30, 1924 in Alton and was the daughter of Roy W. & Frances (Sondles) Rhoades. She was a sister, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She will be sadly missed.

Edie worked at Olin Corporation most of her adult life as an executive secretary and was the only women to set on their board which she did for almost 39 years before retiring in 2006. She was active in the Secretary’s group of America and served as President for one year.

She is survived by one sister Mary K. Christen of Alton, a daughter Barbara Boyle of Northern Illinois, three grandchildren, Jaymee Downing, David and Brian Boyle, three great-grandchildren Alex, Courtney and Madison. She also has many nieces and nephews, a special niece Debbie Ward of Jerseyville who took care of and watched over her the last 10 years and was with her during the last days of her life.

She had been divorced from John E. Varney and Al Lovato. They are both deceased. Also preceding her in death were her parents and a sister Doris Rhoads Miccichi and three brothers Lem Rhoads (Bo), William Rhoads (Bill) and David Rhoads.

As per her wishes, Edith has donated her body to science at Washington University School of Medicine. Memorials may be made to the Family and send to Alexander & Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville.
