Edith Irene Lane, 84, passed away at 1:15 pm, Friday May 21, 2010, at her residence in Villa Rose.

She was born in Alton, IL on September 16, 1925 the daughter of Arthur and Edith (Plummer) Fowler.

Edith married John Lane in 1970 and he preceded her in death.

She was employed as a clerk for the Illinois Department of Employment Security

Edie loved to dance. She would attend VFW dances on Friday nights for many years. She was a loving sister and aunt to her nieces and nephews.

She is survived by a sister and her husband Nellie J and Ernest C. McCormick, many nieces and nephews including Connie Swanson of British Columbia, Linda Kay McCormick of Godfrey, Rohland Ray Freshour of Walford, Iowa, great niece Jennifer Lynn Camerer of Godfrey, great nephews Nicolas Elliott Freshour, Neal Rohland Freshour of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Michael Swanson of British Columbia, Scott Matthew Swanson of Virginia, Ryan Swanson of Tuscola, IL, Joel Raymond Eli Swanson of Anchorage, Alaska, Nieces Charlene Whitehill of Colorado, Brenda Barnett of TX, Jill Trudell of Alton, Carrie Wall of Belleview, FL, Mary Ann Cochran of Hettick, IL, Debbie Mortland of South Roxana and nephews Russell Mortland of TX and Steve Mortland of Jerseyville.

She was preceeded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters Thelma Fowler, Una Dell Mortland and one brother Arthur Hadley Fowler.

Visitation will be from 10 to 12 noon, on Wednesday May 26, 2010 at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton, IL with funeral services following at 12 noon, at the funeral home with her nephew in law Bruce Swanson officiating.

Burial will follow at Upper Alton Cemetery in Alton. 

Memorials may be made to Alton VFW Post 1308.
