Eddie Hollis

Eddie W. Hollis, 91, passed away and went to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 16, 2017, at her residence with her family by her side. She was born on September 3, 1926, in Alton, Missouri, the daughter of the late Clarence and Dorotha (Dotson) Nicholas. She married Doyle Hollis on November 1, 1941, in Alton, Missouri, and he survives. Other survivors include a daughter and son in law: Gail (Matthews) and George DeLancey of Wanda, four sons and daughters in law: Jim and Jan Hollis of Brownsville, Kentucky, Herbert and Helen Hollis of Bowling Green, Kentucky, Nicholas “Nick” and Linda Hollis of Salina, Kansas, John and Vickie Hollis of Effingham, Illinois, twelve grandchildren and their spouses: Ye Hollis, Jay and April Hollis, LaDana Hollis and her companion: Mauri Taylor, Dean and Terri Hollis, Belinda and Willie Gregory, Nick Hollis II, Tom and Karla Hollis, Stephanie and Jason Tappendick, Johnny and Jessica Hollis, Jared and Erica Hollis, Jessica and Tim Lewis, Melissa and Kent Stark, thirty – seven great grandchildren, eleven great – great grandchildren, a brother and sister in law: Don and Patricia Nicholas of Bowling Green, Kentucky, and many nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends.

A homemaker, she was formerly the head chef in the salad making department at Forum Cafeteria in St. Louis. Eddie was the past President for the State of Illinois Woman’s National Auxiliary, and was Past State President for the Women’s Auxiliary for Missions. She studied the bible extensively spoke to many woman’s groups across the State of Illinois. She served as a Dean for twenty – five years at youth church camps. She served on the Christian Women’s Group Mission Board. She was a member of Bethel Free Will Baptist Church in South Roxana now known as Connect Church, where she taught Sunday School for thirty years, was active in Vacation Bible School. She was active in calling people to invite them to church, and was just elected as Head Prayer Warrior. She served for many years on various church boards where she held nearly every office.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son in law: David Matthews, a grandson: Jimmy Dale Hollis, Jr., a great granddaughter: Amber Tappendick, four brothers: Joe Nicholas, Roy Nicholas, Ben Nicholas, Frankie Nicholas, and two sisters: Wanda Lee Nichols, and Marie Price.

In celebration of her life, visitation will be from 4pm to 8pm on Tuesday, September 19, 2017, at Connect Church formerly known at Bethel Free Will Baptist Church, 1417 Herbert Street in South Roxana. Visitation will continue from 9am until time of funeral services at 10am on Wednesday, September 20, 2017, at the church. Her grandson, Rev. Johnny Hollis will officiate. Burial will follow at Wanda Cemetery in South Roxana.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Illinois Free Will Baptist Board of Missions (IGO) and will be accepted at the church.
