Earl Nailor

Wood River |

Earl Lancaster Nailor, 88, passed away 1:30 a.m., Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.

Born in Alton on October 14, 1929, he was the son of James Oscar, Sr. and Ethel S. (Hyman) Nailor.

A U.S. Korean War Army veteran, he had been an operating engineer for Shell Oil Co from 1958 until retiring in 1985.

Earl was a member of the Wood River VFW and East Alton American Legion as well as the Shell and Hartford camera Clubs.  In addition, he was an avid bowler with two "perfect games" to his credit.

On October 15, 1951 in Edwardsville, he married Dolores Slow.  He died May 25, 2006.

Surviving are two sons, Scott (Ketra) Nailor of Godfrey, Tracy Nailor of Wood River; four grandchildren, Tony, Kyle and Jacob Nailor, Krista Owens; 10 great grandchildren, Brook, Austin, David, Olivia, Abi, Audrey, Leo, Lexi, Zoey and Kameron;and a brother, James Oscar (Flora) Nailor, Jr..

His parents; wife; and a sister, Dorris Schiffer preceded in death.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m, Saturday, May 19 at Marks Mortuary in Wood River.

Burial will follow in Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.  Military rites will be presented by the Alton VFW Post 1308 Honors Team.

Memorials may be made to Wood River VFW Post 2578.
